What is RacAtraC (ReachAnyCulture at RheinAhrCampus)

RacAtraC is a project of the RheinAhrCampus in Remagen that offers you a variety of opportunities for your internationalization:

1.Within the RacAtraC Webpage you can find a tandem language learning partner very easily. This means you can expand your already existing language skills or learn a completely new language in collaboration with a native speaker. In return you help this person to learn your own native language. During the tandem learning process two persons communicate usually in their respective mother tongues. In this way they learn from each other. Both tandem partners support each other in order to benefit equally from the joint work (principle of reciprocity) Each tandem partner is responsible for his own learning. He can determine himself what, when, how and with which type of assistance he is going to learn (principle of autonomy).

2.It is not mandatory to make a tandem leaning to improve your language skills by means of our program. Within the RacAtraC webpage you can search for native speakers that just offer their help and don’t want to get any. This means you could learn without to teach, respectively teach without to learn any language.

3.The RacAtraC webpage can also serve the students for an international cultural exchange. Within the webpage you can search for people from foreign countries and learn more about their cultures. Respectively you can help other people to learn more about your country and your culture.

4.If you want to study or make an internship abroad you can search within RacAtraC for people who come from the country/city you are going to study or work in. You could get from those people useful tips concerning the flat-hunting, shopping or nightlife options etc. in their countries/cities. Respectively you could help other people sharing your experience in your country.

You are:

• a native speaker or you have proficient language skills in another language as your mother tongue;
• interested in learning and teaching a language;
• willing to communicate with your tandem partner and to support him by learning a language;
• willing to spend some time for regular meeting with your tandem partner (once a week or so).

How to find a tandem partner?

Please use our registration form where you can give some information about yourself, such as age, what languages you can speak, what languages you are interested in and your e-mail address. You can also look through the list of the tandem offers on our homepage and check out, whether there is somebody, who speaks the language you are interested in. If you have found a prospective tandem partner, you can contact him via e mail.

Face-to-face teaching or eTandem?

You can decide whether you are going to meet your tandem partner for a face-to-face teaching or whether you prefer to use a software application, such as Skype or MSN Messenger, to communicate with your partner.
